Within the framework of Luxembourg’s technical assistance programme for Serbia, called ‘Strengthening Capacities to Implement EU Law’ and financed by the Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs , a seminar on “Intellectual Property Rights: The Patent law” took place in Belgrade from 21st to 23rd November 2018.

This seminar was organised in cooperation with the Ministry of European Integration of the Republic of Serbia and was given by the European Institute for Public Administration - European Centre for Judges and Lawyers (EIPA-ECJL) in Luxembourg.

It aimed at covering the foundations of patent law, in both form and substance. Furthermore, legal experts addressed some specific topics such as patent and plant varieties and the impact of artificial intelligence on innovation.

The participants, which included representatives from the National Intellectual Property Office as well as public officials from the Serbian Ministries of European Integration and Justice, gained a more thorough understanding of the basic concepts of patent law and the relevant procedural aspects.

It was the 5th seminar organised by Luxembourg this year under the auspices of its technical assistance programme for Serbia. Previous seminars dealt with EU environmental law, EU data protection legislation in the field of justice and law enforcement, and EU Intellectual Property Rights.
