Luxembourg Technical Assistance Programme for Serbia:Seminar on EU law and the cooperation on criminal and civil matters (Belgrade,15-17 October 2018)

Within the framework of the Luxembourg Technical Assistance Programme for Serbia “Strengthening Capacities to Implement EU Law”, financed by the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the European Institute for Public Administration  - European Centre for Judges and Lawyers in Luxembourg (EIPA- ECJL) organised, a seminar on “Introduction to EU law and to the fundamentals of the cooperation on criminal and civil matters” from October 15th to 17th in Belgrade, in cooperation with the Judicial Academy of the Republic of Serbia.

The aim of this seminar was to provide an overview of EU Law related to the current negotiations between the European Union and the Republic of Serbia in the view of Serbia’s accession to the EU, and to arise awareness of flagship instruments in criminal and civil matters.

The attendees were judges, prosecutors and lawyers interested in understanding the European dimension of criminal law and criminal justice, the EU legal framework on the rights of individuals in criminal proceedings, organised crime as well as serious crime with a cross-border dimension such as: terrorism, money laundering, corruption, IP crimes, counterfeiting, piracy, environmental crimes and cybercrime.

It was the fourth seminar organised by Luxembourg this year in the framework of its technical assistance programme for Serbia. Previous seminars dealt with EU environmental law, EU data protection legislation in the field of justice and law enforcement and EU Intellectual Property Rights. A seminar on patent law will be organised in Belgrade in November 2018.
